Patient Group

The Patient Participation Group allows patients to feedback constructive comments and suggestions for improvements to services provided by the practice. It is run by volunteers who give up a bit of their time to be the voice of the patients to the surgery. The group is striving to have an active, diverse and representative group of patients as members.

It is to be noted that the PPG is not somewhere solely for complaints, if you have a complaint, that must go through the relevant form in 'Feedback & Complaints'.

What is a Patient Participation Group?

A PPG (Patient Participation Group) is the primary patients' representation within a GP Practice. Most GP practices gain feedback from patients using suggestion boxes, Family and Friends Questionnaires and satisfaction surveys, with a PPG helping to analyse results.

A PPG will meet periodically to discuss issues that have been been raised by the wider Practice patient base or by the Practice Staff. The Practice Manager and members of staff often attend these meetings, providing an opportunity to discuss areas of concern to patients, outside of day-to-day schedules.

What is the purpose of a PPG?

Patients will have a better understanding and knowledge of the practice and its staff.
This allows latest information to be given to patients regarding the practice and will inform what decisions can be influenced and what cannot.
It will allow to present the patient’s perspective to the practice staff and help them gain an understanding.
Patients will benefit from improved communications between patients and staff.

The aim of our PPG is to establish and embed an effective relationship between the staff at Abbey MC and the patient population.

This is achieved by communicating patient experience, concerns, suggestions, comments and compliments in an objective manner.

We are a flourishing, forward thinking and long established team which has an excellent relationship with the staff at Abbey MC. We hold online meetings with the Practice Manager, our Senior Partner and other staff, 4 times a year.

Our Chairperson represents the PPG at South Warwickshire level, and at the Warwick and Kenilworth PCN ( Primary Care Network). This means that the group are kept up to date with any new initiatives.

We aim to be a critical friend of the practice and to survey patient views to feed back results to the staff team. This will provide data which can be used to improve patient experience at Abbey Medical Centre.

What are the benefits for the patient?

Over the years we have helped to set up and run some innovative projects which add value to the patient experience at Abbey Medical Centre.

At present some of our PPG members assist with Wellbeing Walks every Friday from Abbey Medical Centre. We have a team of 22 volunteers who lead walks and organise refreshments at The Kenilworth Centre. We regularly have 25-30 patient participants walking with us.

Last year we were asked by the Practice Manager to help set up Wellbeing Calls to specific patient groups. Volunteers undertook GDPR training and started to ring patients using the in house phone systems. This innovative project is now being expanded to include a wider range of patient groups.

A member of our PPG has established a Menopause Support Group which meets on a monthly basis at The Kenilworth Centre. This provides patients with an opportunity to meet and to discuss managing symptoms, the pros and cons of HRT and its’ alternatives. It offers emotional and wellbeing support. A specialist GP also attends regularly.

Join our PPG?

We are seeking patients to join our Patient Participation Group (PPG).

The PPG currently consists of 20 members who are patients registered with AMC.

We want to recruit patients from as broad a spectrum as possible so that the PPG is representative of the patient body as a whole. We particularly need participants who are prepared to take an active role in the work of the PPG. We meet online between 17:30 - 19:00 on a quarterly basis.
