NHS Health Checks are back at Abbey Medical Centre
We’re pleased to let you know that NHS Health Checks have returned to GP practices in Warwickshire. Following a new contract awarded by Warwickshire County Council, which began in July 2026, we are able to offer these checks at the practice again.
How it works
We have been given a set number of health checks to deliver each year, so we are inviting eligible patients in stages. You do not need to contact us. If you are eligible, we will send you an invitation with details of how to book.
Who is eligible?
The NHS Health Check is for people aged 40 to 74 who have not had one in the last five years and who do not already have certain conditions, including:
- heart disease, heart failure or atrial fibrillation
- stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA)
- diabetes
- high blood pressure
- chronic kidney disease (stage 3 to 5)
- peripheral arterial disease
- familial hypercholesterolaemia
You are also not eligible if you are prescribed statins to lower cholesterol, or if a previous check found you to be at higher risk of cardiovascular disease. If any of these apply to you, your health is already monitored through your regular reviews.
In line with the county-wide programme, some groups at higher risk of cardiovascular disease are being prioritised for invitations.
What to expect
Your health check is a 30-minute face-to-face appointment with a member of our nursing team. It includes checks of your blood pressure, Bloods, plus a conversation about your lifestyle and how to lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.
Please arrive a few minutes early and use the health monitor in reception to record your blood pressure, height and weight before your appointment.
Thank you for your patience while this service was unavailable, and for your continued support.
